CUT OUT MITTENS
No sewing experience required!
Monday–Wednesday | 10 AM–2 PM
Help us prep the mittens we sell by cutting fabric pieces. This is a perfect way to contribute while chatting, listening to music, or enjoying a relaxed lunch break.
What to bring:
• Sharp scissors
• Pins
• Your lunch or grab something delicious from Blossom Café, right in the building
Sew Mittens
Thursday, January 23 | 10 AM–2 PM
Sit down and sew with us, or take mitten kits home to work on during the winter months. Use one of our Salt Valley vintage sewing machines, bring your own machine, or help with simple hand-sewing like adding buttons to finished cuffs.
What to bring:
• Sharp scissors
• Pins
• Seam ripper
• Your lunch or visit Blossom Café
Location
Salt Valley Arts Center – Studio Space EHM Professional Building 400 W. Russell, Saline Entrance A
How Else Can You Help?
Donate a Wool or Cashmere Sweater
We’re always in need of wool or cashmere sweaters in bright colors or black. Sweaters must contain a percentage of wool. A few moth holes are okay—we’re pros at working around them!
Every cut, stitch, and sweater helps turn donated materials into warm mittens for our neighbors. Thank you for being part of this meaningful, handmade tradition.

Donated 100+ Ornaments!
Salt Valley Arts donated over 100 hand made Christmas ornaments to the Evangelical Homes of Michigan Foundation (EHM), the parent of Brecon Village. In turn, they are given to those who donate and are also sold during the holidays to benefit EHM.

$10 Hat & Headband Class
Our own Nancy Miller led this class in October 2024 where participants made either a hat or headband. Wool scraps and fleece lining provided for $10 class fee.

World Art Day
Salt Valley Arts celebrated World Art Day together in person and online. We gathered together at Dan’s in Saline, to appreciate this awesome community of volunteers dedicated to inspiring individuals to explore and express their unique creativity. Lynn organized the event, Cathy brought the games, Helen & Kelly won door prizes, and a great time was had by all.
On our Facebook Page we shared with the world the art, friendship and volunteerism that makes up Salt Valley Arts.

Valentines Day Card Making
On Super Bowl Sunday in February, Salt Valley Arts made 50 valentines to spread some love and cheer to the residents of Brecon Village Evangelical Homes. At this community service project, participants also learned how to make origami hearts for their valentines by special guests of Cathy Cieglo from Japan.

Masquer-aide Challege
This community wide Masquer-aide Challenge donated all entry fees to the Taylor Jacobsen Art Scholarship Fund of the Saline Leadership Institute. Taylor Jacobsen was a well loved Saline art educator. The Taylor Jacobsen Art Scholarship Fund was established by the Saline Leadership Institute in his memory to provide access to art classes through Saline Social Services.
Artists paid a $10 entry fee to create art inspired by their interpretation of the word MASK. A Reveal Party was then held to reveal the artists that created each piece. Guests were encouraged to create wearable masks at the party to get into the fall spirit. Artwork was on display from October 10 through November 9, 2022.
