Nancy Miller coordinated the annual Community Mitten Project again this year, creating sweater mittens. All mittens - or the sale from the mittens - were donated to Saline Area Social Services!

Nancy taught FREE classes to make these mittens. A team of fellow artists brought
their machines - or reserved one of SVA's vintage machines - as well as thread, wound bobbins, and scissors.

Classes were held our Salt Valley Arts Center Studio Space at EHM Senior Solutions Professional Building, 400 W. Russell, Entrance A.

Arti Gras 2023 Flier 8.5x11.jpg

Arti Gras 2023 was a three part community art challenge and a fundraiser for Salt Valley Arts which ended with a Silent Auction on April 23.

Ten photos were chosen to be used as artistic inspiration. Each artist was provided with one of the photos and a frame to be incorporated in any way the artist chose. Finished art was displayed and then auctioned off. All entry fees and auction money benefitted our community art center.

This community wide Masquer-aide Challenge donated all entry fees to the Taylor Jacobsen Art Scholarship Fund of the Saline Leadership Institute.  Taylor Jacobsen was a well loved Saline art educator.  The Taylor Jacobsen Art Scholarship Fund was established by the Saline Leadership Institute in his memory to provide access to art classes through Saline Social Services.

Artists paid a $10 entry fee to create art inspired by their interpretation of the word MASK.  A Reveal Party was then held to reveal the artists that created each piece.  Guests were encouraged to create wearable masks at the party to get into the fall spirit.  Artwork was on display from October 10 through November 9, 2022.

ARTI GRAS 2022

Sum of the Parts II
Salt Valley Arts divided up a well-known work of art into an eighty piece grid and over 58 artists in our community purchased squares to reproduce.  From traditional painting to knitting to packing paper adhered with mod podge, our artists reproduced each square in a medium of their choice!

Then we installed The Sum at The 109 Cultural Exchange in Saline, with new parts added every few days.  As the artwork was revealed, everyone was invited to guess the art - even our artists didn't know which artwork it was or even which direction of their piece was up!

Congratulations goes to Teri Pattison for being the first person to submit a correct guess of the artist and artwork - she choose a one year membership to Salt Valley Arts as a prize!  Four other guessers - Amy Goode, Jan Fleming, Michelle Sanford and Kimberly Phillips - were randomly chosen from all the correct guesses to receive a $5 gift card to Carrigan’s Café.
