Art Club at Salt Valley Arts
Do you have a project you want to work on, but need a little motivation to keep it going? Do you like to color but feel a little silly when you’re just sitting by yourself?
Come join us at Salt Valley Arts on Monday nights this fall for Art Club. Artists and crafters of all abilities bring projects they can work on while catching up on social news and latest events. Guest artist talks are scheduled once per month to add to the fun. Art club runs Mondays from 6:30-8:30 pm.

Description: Salt Valley artists will be leading community members in a free class to learn how to sew mittens out of felted wool sweaters which are lined with fleece. Te first three classes (sessions A and B) will focus on cutting sets of mittens from donated wool sweaters and fleece. Te last three classes (session C) will be spent sewing the mittens. All mittens will be donated to Saline Area Social Services. Last year over $2000 was donated to SASS by the sale of mittens and several dozen mittens were donated for the clients of SASS. Students should bring their own sharp scissors and pins to class on cutting days. Students should bring their own sewing machine and scissors, light and dark thread, bobbins and pins for sewing days. If you do not have a sewing machine, arrangements may be made to use a machine on site. Some sewing experience is helpful. Tis is a good class for those who want to refresh their sewing skills. *While this program is free, please register in advance so we know who to expect.
Abstract Printmaking Workshop

Description:
Students will use a variety of precut shapes and printing plates to create an abstract composition. Using a portable printing press, we’ll ink up our shapes, run them through the press onto our paper, and layer the colors and shapes until we have pieces we love! Students can expect to take home several pieces, ready to frame. Wear clothes you can get messy! Art supplies provided. Instructor:

Description: Color Workshop
We’ll discuss the color relationship teachings of the master of color, Josef Albers. Using Color Aid papers, we will experiment with color, learning how the eye sends color information to the brain and working through a few exercises to better understand the many aspects of color. We won’t break a sweat in these exercises, but they will blow your mind! Color-Aid paper and glue is provided. Students should bring an Exacto knife with new blade, glue stick, pencil, metal ruler and cutting mat, if they have one. Instructor will have some extra tools if you’re missing any of these. Bring a snack!

Description: This fun class is co-taught by Valerie Mann and Keith McGuire - two artists, nature enthusiasts and bird lovers. Each day will start with a nature hike, observing, using binoculars and collecting artifacts. Then, instructors will lead students in nature-inspired art projects back in the classroom. This class will bring science and art together in fun and adventurous ways! Wear clothes and shoes you can have adventures in!

Drawing Intensive Workshop - Perspective

Bring your open, non-self-judgmental mind to this class and dust of those drawing skills! Students will do a variety of drawing exercises, opening the communication between your eyes and your hand and really paying attention to seeing and problem-solving perspective with a variety of media. We will study perspective as it relates to landscape, still lifes and structures. Individualized instruction will be the focus. Description: Create a Day of the Dead-inspired glue resist piece of fabric that can later be stitched into a fag or embellished as part of another project. Students will take home 1-2 decorated muslin blocks painted and ready for heat setting and washing. Bring your own hair dryer to speed up drying time.

Learn to create 3-5 whimsical and decorative Mandala stones with a twist! Using glow in the dark paint we will be creating harmonic patterns with color and size variations. Aferward, leave them to absorb light during the day and release glowing designs at night!

Description: Get the full Zentangle® experience. No art or drawing experience necessary as “Anything is possible, one stroke at time.™” In the first class you will learn the basics of the Zentangle® process. Students will have the opportunity to learn at least five tangles in this first class and delve into more detailed tangles, shading and techniques in Class II. Description: Learn how to use that “camera” you have with you all the time: your iPhone. Try out some tips and learn some tricks to using your iPhone’s camera while also learning new techniques on how to compose and shoot a great picture. Explore the HDR, panoramic and time-lapse features and then move onto exploring some fun and creative processes in editing, applying filters, working with camera and editing apps, and sharing your shots on social media. The instructor will be demonstrating a few camera and editing apps, and students may want to purchase them for their device through their app store on their device. The average price for the two apps most commonly used is $5-$6 and is a completely optional part of the class.
